Homing Pigeon by Patrick Lenton

Periodically, like summer floods or warehouse sales or depression, Brandon’s friends would decide to delete their dating apps. Over brunch, fabulous in linens and broad brimmed hats, manicured and contoured and more perfect than they could ever imagine, they would proclaim that men are “just NOT worth the effort.” Brandon had to agree. Years ago, Brandon had put his faith into a different type of romantic algorithm, haunting the park at dusk, catching sleepy pigeons and strapping love letters to their feet. He knew they weren’t homing pigeons, but he assumed they had to go somewhere.

Patrick Lenton is the Editor of pop-culture publication Junkee. He is the author of the book of short stories “A Man Made Entirely of Bats” and the collection of comedic essays “Uncle Hercules and Other Lies.”
